In 2004, Dave and his wife self-built their solar home, using the solar panels from their boat as their only energy source. Although they hired local companies to pour the foundation, drill the well and dig the septic, all other aspects of the house were done entirely by Dave. It took a year and a half to complete the project and the Martins currently enjoy living in their home in the woods.
